As your constituent, I am urgently asking you to pass the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act (formerly the Freedom to Vote Act and John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act) by any means necessary, including changing Senate rules so that these critical bills can receive a vote.
These bills counter voter suppression efforts and ban partisan gerrymandering that often target communities of color. They also protect against dangerous attempts to undermine our elections by standardizing vote counting rules and safeguarding election administration against partisan attacks.
Our democracy faces an existential crisis. At least 19 states passed 34 laws that make it harder for people to vote, and more than 440 bills with provisions that restrict voting access were introduced in 49 states in the 2021 legislative sessions.
Our democracy is under attack, and I am asking you, as my Senator, to defend it: pass federal voting rights legislation now.
