Tell New York Lawmakers: Fund Small Donor Public Financing Now

New Yorkers won a resounding victory for democracy three years ago when our state’s leaders enacted an innovative public campaign financing system: a program that empowers voters and frees our election from the unfettered influence of megadonors and corporate campaign spending.

The program launched to great fanfare last November, but state legislators have been dragging their feet and wavering on their support for implementing the program as promised. We need to demand that our lawmakers, many of whom have long voiced their support for the program, heed the will of New York’s voters and set the public financing system up for success when they submit their final budget on April 1st.

Call your state legislators in Albany, and ask them to fully fund the public campaign financing program so it can achieve its full potential in the 2024 election.

Here are some points you can touch on:

  • Megadonors have way too much influence over New York elections
  • Small donor public financing empowers New York voters
  • The program has support across party lines: A large majority of voters want the program funded
